Today was a beautiful,sunny Friday. I loaded up Scout to head to the grocery store, but somehow we ended up at the park!
Scout loves to swing, so that is where we landed! There were a couple of others there, but my heart broke as I looked around.
The kids were playing, enjoying their afternoon, but the adults were all standing around with their phones in hand, not even watching the kids. I wanted to go over and say to these adults, wake up.....you are missing out on bonding and making precious memories with your little one for some text or face book, whatever. I promise that nothing they were looking at could be as important as being fully present with the child in their life. You don't get do overs in a child's life.
Put the phone away. Look in your child's eyes as they swing and/or go down the slide. Laugh with them. Lay in the grass and watch the clouds go by. Hold their little hands and walk together. We don't get another chance to do today.
But you can begin to change, all you have to do is unplug and enjoy the love.
