Barely.
I have to admit, I didn't fall head-over-heels in love with the book! I have seen the movie, which i understand is wonderful, but I have Multiple Sclerosis, and one of my symptoms is memory loss! I can't remember watching this movie, although my husband assures me we did! And that I enjoyed it! So seeing the movie didn't prove helpful as I tackled this book, My memory could have been some of the reason it took me a while to get into the story, as I couldn't recall what I had read and would reread many parts! But I trudged along with headstrong determination to complete what I had set out to finish.
I did find the parts about the ball to be a bit dry and rather boring, but I carried on in hopes of better storylines later on! Wordiness certainly was a problem, one sentence was over seventy words long! My daughter, who adores literature, cheered me on and encouraged me to persevere. I am glad I did. I became invested in the characters and was drawn into the storyline. I found I actually cared where I thought I could or would, not. The characters became real people and I became invested in the choices they made.
I can see why people fall for this book. Not in love with it, but like it and might choose to read it more than once.
Honestly, I like books with more action than romance, more mystery than coyness. Perhaps I am a more modern girl. But a good book is a good book. I would go so far as to say Pride and Prejudice turned out to be a better book than I thought it was going to be.
So, I am ready for my next mental challenge. These are great exercises for my brain!

I love hearing a dissenting opinion!
I did really love the book, but the first 1/3 was very hard for me to get through.
Congratulations!
I haven't read any of the classics... I know, shame on me!
I would like to, but a few weeks ago I decided to read the entire Bible, cover-to-cover, in 90 days. I am in the middle of 2 Kings, which puts me at just over 1/3 of the way there! Yay! I have missed a few days, but I've doubled up when I did, so that I am right on track.
I have committed to not reading any other book until I finish the Good Book!
And I don't remember if I ever posted back to you (I linked to you, though) but I did the meme you sent me... thanks!
Glad you stuck with it!! I have that long, long sentence underlined in my book for that very reason!
